I am a sophomore at Cornell University, majoring in biology with concentrations in biochemistry and molecular and cell biology. I hope to pursue a Ph.D. and then begin a career in biomedical research. I would eventually like to establish my own laboratory, as well as several field stations, to research diseases related to natural products.

My first research experience was last semester under Dr. Randy Worobo at Cornell's New York State Experimental Agriculture Station. My work there concentrated on environmental screening for bacteria that produce bacteriocins. I hope to return to this lab in the fall, and I look forward to doing further, more complex research.

I am currently working with Dr. Marjorie Robert-Guroff in the Laboratory of Immune Biology of Retroviral Infection at the National Cancer Institute. The lab is currently focusing on the development of an HIV vaccine. My role in the lab is to study the mucosal immune responses of macaques immunized with an Adenovirus-SIV recombinant vaccine. My experiences are allowing me to expand my laboratory knowledge, particularly in the areas of immunology and virology. In addition to working in the lab, I have taken advantage of numerous opportunities at the NIH by attending seminars and speaking with researchers. I have found the UGSP to be very helpful to me, both professionally and personally, and I believe that I will use my experiences here for years to come.
