Destined to study medicine for as long as I can remember, I began my undergraduate studies in biology at the University of the Virgin Islands. My first exposure to biomedical research took place in the summer of 1998 when I was accepted into the Howard Hughes Undergraduate Research Fellowship at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. At the time, I worked in the laboratory of Dr. Stephen Sligar who conducts cytochrome p450 research.

My goal is to apply to an M.D./Ph.D. program with an M.D. specialization in oncology and a Ph.D. in medicinal chemistry. My hope is to eventually apply "bench-top" - or basic science - discoveries to patient care.

In preparation, I have participated in a number of research programs, including phosphorylation studies at Hunter College of the City University of New York in the laboratory of Dr. Dixie Goss, molecular sensor studies with Dr. Ralph Isovitsch at my home institution, and currently, proteomics research as a UGSP Scholar at the National Institutes of Health with Dr. Sanford Markey. My experience at the NIH has proven to be very rewarding. I am surrounded by a host of intellectuals in the field of biomedical research, who on many occasions take time out to speak with me about the path towards my goal.
