Mayor Chávez and Generous Employees

Mayor Martin J. Chávez, the City of Albuquerque and the Corporate Volunteer Council (CVC) donated over 100,000 school supplies. The school supplies will benefit 22 schools in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties as well as 10 nonprofit organizations.

“I appreciate the generous efforts of the 16 companies that participated in this year’s school supply drive. The items collected will help facilitate learning for our students this school year,” Mayor Chávez stated.

“Students should be able to devote their time and focus on school work, and not struggle to find a pencil and paper to do calculations and write papers,” said Dara Ambriz, Corporate Volunteer Council President. “The CVC Back to Basics school supply drive is one way we can help make a difference for these kids. Our council is committed to increasing employee volunteerism and community involvement by engaging local businesses to partner and build a better community. I believe the 100,000 school supplies donated will give students the tools needed to start the new school year.”

This is the sixth year for the Back to Basics School Supply Drive. CVC member companies as part of this joint effort include: Cardinal Health, Citi Cards, City of Albuquerque MOVE, French Mortuary, Gap Inc., Hyatt Regency, Intel Corp., New Mexico Business Weekly, New Mexico Mutual Group, New Mexico Office of Workforce Development, Public Service Company of New Mexico, Sandia National Laboratories, Verizon Wireless, Wells Fargo and United Way/Optimist Club.

The New Mexico Corporate Volunteer Council is an association of corporations dedicated to promoting volunteerism among employees and building a better community. Through corporate volunteer programs, both the community and the organization benefit. Members of the CVC meet monthly to share best practices.
