New Mexico and the Department of Energy have a long history.  Home to Sandia and the Los Alamos National Laboratory, New Mexico and its citizens played a leading role in helping to develop the weapons that won World War II and the Cold War. Today, Los Alamos National Laboratory focuses on maintaining the Nation’s nuclear deterrence capabilities without weapons testing, while Sandia National Laboratory is working to ensure the security and reliability of nuclear weapons and material.
