AMES, Iowa –Ames Laboratory Director Alex King has announced an additional change to the leadership team at Ames Laboratory.  Ames Laboratory scientist Cynthia Jenks has been named to a newly created position as Assistant Director for Scientific Planning.

In that role, Jenks will have a number of duties including the development of a strategic plan for the Laboratory, and assisting in the advancement of our communication strategies.   She comes to the Director's Office after 13 years in staff scientist positions at the Ames Laboratory, with a strong record of scientific contributions that includes over 100 publications.  Jenks’ appointment was effective May 15, 2008.

“Dr. Jenks will add a number of new dimensions to the Office of the Director, among which will be the presence of a Professional and Scientific staff scientist in the executive suite,” King said.

King earlier named Pat Thiel as Division Director for Science and Technology, replacing Bruce Harmon, who had served on an interim basis after former division director Alan Goldman’s departure from the post. Harmon now continues in his regular role as the Lab’s Deputy Director.
