USDA Considers Allowing the Importation of White Asparagus from Senegal

August 15, 2008

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is advising the public that we have prepared a pest risk analysis that evaluates the risks associated with the importation into the continental United States of fresh white asparagus from Senegal.  Based on that analysis, we believe that the application of one or more designated phytosanitary measures will be sufficient to mitigate the risks of introducing or disseminating plant pests or noxious weeds via the importation of fresh white asparagus from Senegal.  We are making the pest risk analysis available to the public for review and comment.

This notice is scheduled for publication in the Aug. 18 Federal Register.

Consideration will be given to comments received on or before Oct. 17. You may submit comments by either of the following methods:

  • Postal Mail/Commercial Delivery:  Please send two copies of your comment to Docket No. APHIS-2008-0084, Regulatory Analysis and Development, PPD, APHIS, Station 3A-03.8,   4700 River Road, Unit 118, Riverdale, MD 20737-1238.  Please state that your comment refers to Docket No. APHIS-2008-0084.
