Our mission:

Provide external communications and community relations advice and assistance for U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command and its headquarters elements.

Branch responsibilities

  • Develops, coordinates, implements and supervises media relations/community relations programs and activities within TRADOC.
  • Develops and implements tactical, operational and strategic PA communication strategies to support TRADOC activities and initiatives.
  • Provides policy and precedence guidance on MR/CR matters to TRADOC activities and the HQ staff (AR 5-9, AR 360-1).
  • Prepares and releases information on TRADOC activities to local, regional, national and international news media (AR 360-1).
  • Coordinates media coverage of special events in which TRADOC elements participate (AR 360-1).
  • Keeps the command group and staff informed on significant news events (AR 360-1).
  • Reviews for comprehension, policy and propriety all manuscripts prepared for release on the missions and functions of TRADOC; refers draft releases as appropriate to DA OCPA for review. Coordinates Department of Defense speech clearance for HQ lieutenant generals and above (AR 360-1).
  • Responds to written, electronic and telephonic requests from public and media for Army information (AR 360-1).
  • Serves as TRADOC POC with civilian organizations at local, regional and national levels. As directed, represents HQ TRADOC at meetings of civic, professional and veterans’ organizations (AR 360-1).
  • Evaluates and coordinates requests for participation of TRADOC personnel, special units, bands, equipment and displays in support of CR activities throughout TRADOC (AR 5-9, AR 360-1).
  • Evaluates requests for HQ TRADOC general officer speakers at engagements of private and civic organizations and makes recommendations on the appropriateness of accepting requests (AR 5-9, AR 360-1).
  • Serves as HQ TRADOC POC for the Joint Civilian Orientation Conference and Defense Orientation Conference Association, programs conducted by the OSD (AR 1-15, AR 360-1).
  • Develops concepts and coordinates arrangements for HQ TRADOC participation in special events such as Army Birthday, Flag Day, etc. (AR 360-1).
  • Exercises operational control of The U.S. Continental Army Band, HQ TRADOC’s prime CR tool. Oversees development of marketing strategies and publicity products to promote performances and target market expansion. Oversees scheduling of appearances and concerts, to include the annual TRADOC Tattoo performance at Fort Monroe; places the band on tour and oversees formulation of ideas for musical shows to commemorate special events (AR 360-1).
  • Initiates community outreach and networking on behalf of the command by attending meetings of the Hampton Roads and Virginia Peninsula chambers of commerce and other major organizations in the Virginia Peninsula and Tidewater area.
  • Analyses and oversees CR programs and policy at the 32 TRADOC schools and activities. Provides guidance and support to CR officers representing these entities.
