SAMHSA Accepting Applications for FY 2008 Jail Diversion and Trauma Recovery Grants with Program-Priority on Veterans

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is soliciting applications for fiscal year (FY) 2008 Jail Diversion and Trauma Recovery Program- Priority to Veterans grants.   These grants are designed to reach the growing number of individuals with post traumatic stress disorder and trauma-related disorders involved in the justice system.

   

This program will support States to pilot local implementation of a trauma-integrated jail diversion programs and to replicate them statewide.  In recognition of the dramatically higher prevalence of trauma-related illnesses among veterans, this program will prioritize eligibility for veterans.

 

SAMHSA expects that approximately $2.475 million in funding will be available to award up to 6 grants for up to 5 years. The average award amount is expected to be up to $412,500 annually. The actual award amounts may vary, depending on the availability of funds. The grants will be administered by SAMHSA’s Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS).

 

WHO CAN APPLY : Eligible applicants are State Mental Health Agencies and federally recognized American Indian/Alaska Native Tribes and tribal organizations.  Consortia of tribal organizations are also eligible to apply.

APPLICATION DUE DATE : Friday, May 8, 2008.  Applications must be received by the due date and time to be considered for review.  Please review carefully Section IV-3 of the application announcement for revised Fiscal Year, 2008 submission requirements.
