Abstract: Enhancing Rehabilitation Research in the South (ERRIS) based at the University of Virginia is one of four NIH-funded rehabilitation research networks whose purpose is to increase the quality and quantity of rehabilitation research. One way we plan to accomplish this goal is through an intensive 5-day workshop on grant production. Unlike passive seminars on this topic, selected participants will come prepared to complete a grant proposal for submission to the NIH.

The Educated Citizen and Public Health: An Undergraduate Curriculum Development Institute
Abstract: To take advantage of the momentum and success of "Public Health and Liberal Education," the APTR/AAC&U partnership is pleased to announce a second phase of the Educated Citizen and Public Health initiative. In phase two, faculty and administrative teams from as many as 48 colleges and universities (both those with public health schools and programs and those without them) will gather for an intensive, two-day institute.

Accelerating the Dissemination and Translation of Clinical Research into Practice

Abstract: This is the first in a series of workshops to discuss and share best practices and ways in which researchers can partner with community health care providers to translate clinical research into practice. Participants will develop recommendations for academic-community collaborations and partnerships with other community programs to better facilitate translating science into community-based practice. This workshop will help to identify: 1) key enablers of successful academic-community provider partnerships; 2) effective strategies for dissemination, diffusion, and adoption of research; and 3) public and private-sector partners for collaborative translational research.

Interdepartmental Tribal Justice, Safety, & Wellness: Government-to-Government Consultation, Training, and Technical Assistance

Abstract: Various government agencies have worked steadily to respond to the stated needs of the Tribal community through a series of government-to-government consultation, training & technical assistance (CTTA) sessions held across the country. Two sessions were scheduled for 2008, the first of which took place this March in Washington, DC. The March session focused on public health and safety, drug awareness, tribal court systems, detention facilities, multi-jurisdictional coordination and communication, sexual offender registry, and other wellness areas. This session, the second scheduled for 2008, will continue to emphasize justice and safety issues, while focusing specifically on health and wellness in tribal communities.
