20th Annual National Night Out - Tuesday, August 5, 2003

Release No.: 2003-08
Release Date: August 4, 2003

The "20th Annual National Night Out" (NNO), a unique crime and drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW), has been scheduled for Tuesday, August 5, 2003.

National Night Out, a year-long community building campaign, is designed to: (1) heighten crime prevention awareness; (2) generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs; (3) strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and (4) send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

We cordially invite you and your community to be part of the NIGHT OUT 2003 team.

Any municipality, law enforcement agency, crime prevention organization, community group or neighborhood association not yet officially registered with NATW is invited to contact NATW now to receive information on National Night Out 2003. To find out more or to register on line for a National Night Out planning kit, visit www.natw.org/natw.

There is no cost to register or participate. Once registered with NATW, local coordinators receive an organizational kit full of 'how-to' materials including planning suggestions, sample new releases, artwork, and promotional guides - and interim updates throughout the year. These include organizing a "neighborhood block party," suggestions for how to get neighbors to meet neighbors, and how to establish a neighborhood watch group.

Citizen Corps is please to support the efforts of the National Association of Town Watch to help make our communities safer!
