MACOSH Public Meeting Set for June 30-July 1 in Washington, DC

WASHINGTON -- Th Maritime Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health (MACOSH) will hold an open meeting in Washington, D.C., June 30-July 1, 2004.

The meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn on the Hill, New Jersey Ave. NW, Washington, D.C. 20001. The committee will meet from 8:30-5 p.m. on June 30 and from 8:00-4:30 p.m. on July 1. The committee's five work groups will meet from 8-5 p.m. on June 29.

Full committee agenda items include presentations and discussions of OSHA's standards and guidance activities, including the proposed standard for chromium VI; maritime enforcement; alliances and partnerships' outreach activities; OSHA's homeland security/emergency preparedness efforts; and MACOSH work group reports.

MACOSH was established to advise the Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health on issues relating to occupational safety and health for workers involved in shipbuilding, ship breaking, ship repair, and longshoring in the maritime industries.

Written comments and requests to make oral presentations may be submitted to Vanessa Welch by June 17, 2004 to the Office of Maritime, OSHA, US Department of Labor, Room N-3609, 200 Constitution Ave., NW, Washington D.C., 20210. Presentation requests should specify the amount of time desired, the capacity in which the person will appear, and an outline of the presentation. Requests to speak may be granted as time permits.

Notice of the MACOSH meeting is expected to appear in the May 14 Federal Register.
