OSHA Joins With Manufacturers Association of Central N.Y. and State Labor Department NEW YORK -- Improving workplace safety and health for Upstate New York workers is the goal of a new alliance among the U.S. Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Manufacturers Association of Central New York (MACNY), and the New York State Department of Labor's On-Site Consultation Program (NYS Consultation). OSHA alliances are part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of workers through cooperative partnerships. The purpose of the alliance is to provide members of the Manufacturers Association of Central New York and others with information, guidance and access to training resources for recognizing and eliminating hazards. A particular emphasis is placed on helping businesses develop their own workplace safety and health programs. "By working together, smaller employers can gain a solid foundation on which to build and sustain safe, efficient and profitable businesses. OSHA is proud to be a part of that effort," said Diane Brayden, OSHA's Syracuse area director. The alliance signatories will work together to deliver training on how to develop and put into practice comprehensive safety and health management systems, especially for small businesses. They will also promote related training and educational programs through outreach and communication efforts. NYS Consultation will provide resources to support the training and technical assistance needs of the participants of this alliance. Since 2001, the Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration has created more than 160 alliances with organizations committed to fostering safety and health in the workplace.
