Authorized trainers may receive OSHA course completion cards for their students.
To become an authorized trainer, you must complete:
Prerequisites for entry into this course:
- Two years maritime industry experience and at least one of the following:
- Two years of occupational safety and health experience
(with a broad focus) in any industry.
- A degree in occupational safety and health from an accredited college or university.
- Certification as an Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Marine Chemist (CMC), or
Certified Safety Health Manager (CSHM)

This course provides an overview of the most hazardous and referenced Maritime standards. The course is
one week long and is conducted by the OSHA Training Institute Education Centers which are located around the country. This course will ensure that persons
conducting the 10- and 30-hour Maritime courses are qualified. Persons successfully completing this course will receive an "Authorized Maritime Trainer
Card".
When you complete the course, you are authorized to train for four years. To renew, you must complete refresher training or retake
Course
#5402. If your card expires, you will have to retake Course #5400 to become reauthorized as a trainer. |
