OSHA signs national Alliance with the ADSC: International Association of Foundation Drilling on February 22, 2005.
 
The OSHA and ADSC Alliance, focuses on providing the association's members and others in the foundation drilling industry, including small businesses and non-English or limited English speaking employees, with information, guidance, and access to training resources to help them protect employees' health and safety. The Alliance focuses on safety and health issues including, fall protection, silica, pinch-point and equipment operation hazards. The agreement's goals include:

Training and education:
  • Work with OSHA to provide expertise to develop training and education programs for small businesses and non-English or limited English speaking employees regarding fall protection, silica, pinch-point and equipment operation hazards and to provide expertise in communicating such information to employers and employees in the industry.
Outreach and communication:
  • Work with OSHA to provide expertise in developing information on the recognition and prevention of workplace hazards, and to provide expertise in developing ways of communicating such information (e.g. print and electronic media, electronic assistance tools and OSHA'S and ADSC's Web sites) to employers and employees in the industry.
  • Share information among OSHA personnel and industry safety and health professionals regarding ADSC's best practices or effective approaches and publicize results through outreach by ADSC and through OSHA – or ADSC's developed materials, training programs, workshops, seminars, and lectures (or any other applicable forum).
Promoting the national dialogue on workplace safety and health:
  • Convene or participate in forums, round table discussions, or stakeholder meetings on foundation drilling issues such as fall protection, silica, pinch-point and equipment operation hazards, to help forge innovative solutions in the workplace.

  • May 4-10, 2008: 2008 North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week. The ADSC: International Association of Foundation Drilling and a number of other Alliance Program participants supported 2008 NAOSH Week, "Safety is Good Business." Sponsored annually by American Society of Safety Engineers and the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering, the Week focuses on the importance of preventing injuries and illnesses in the workplace.

  • December 18, 2006: Drilled Shaft Installation Safety Presentation, Indianapolis, Indiana.
    • Rick Marshall, Chairman, ADSC Safety Committee, presented the Drilled Shaft Installation Safety Presentation [PDF - 3.7 MB] to 35 attendees from OSHA Region V, Indiana OSHA and the Indiana On-site Consultation Program in Indianapolis, Indiana.
  • April 29, 2006: ADSC South Central Chapter OSHA 10-hour Construction Outreach Training Program, Sheraton Grand Hotel, Irving Texas.
    • Mike Talmont, Assistant Area Director, Region VI, Ft. Worth, Texas Area Office, USDOL-OSHA, and Rick Marshall, Chairman, ADSC Safety Committee, provided an OSHA 10-Hour Construction Outreach Training Program to 24 attendees at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Irving, Texas.

    • Danezza Quintero, Occupational Safety and Health Specialist, Directorate of Construction, Office of Construction Services, USDOL-OSHA, and Rick Marshall, Chairman, ADSC Safety Committee, provided an OSHA Construction 10-Hour course to 42 attendees at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner in McLean, Virginia.
  • April 28-30, 2005: ADSC Board of Directors meeting, Dallas, Texas.
    • April 30, 2005: Jess McCluer, Program Analyst, Directorate of Cooperative and State Programs, Office of Outreach Services and Alliances, USDOL-OSHA, gave a presentation to over 30 attendees on the Alliance Program and the activities of the ADSC Alliance.

The sheets describe safety tips to help prevent injuries and illnesses while installing anchored earth retentions and micropiles.

The employer and employee tip sheets [PDF - 62 KB] are products of the OSHA and ADSC Alliance. The sheets describe general safety tips to help prevent injuries and illnesses in the drilled shaft foundation industry.
  • Drilled Shaft Installation Safety Presentation. [PDF - 3.6 MB] The presentation, a product of the OSHA and ADSC Alliance, is designed to provide OSHA staff, drilled shaft contractors and their employees, geotechnical engineers and general contractors with information about drilled shaft construction equipment and methods, general safety practices and recommendations on how to maintain a safe worksite.
