Library, School and Medical Association Resources

  • American Academy of Pediatrics- The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) an organization dedicated to health, safety, and well-being of children, has a section of its web site devoted to disaster preparedness that meets children's unique needs.
  • American Library Association- Disaster Preparedness and Recovery
  • American Medical Association- The American Medical Association's (AMA) Center for Public Health Preparedness and Disaster Responses serves as an "educational resource for enhancing the disaster preparedness and response capabilities of both civilian and military providers".
  • Academic Medicine Responds to Recent Hurricanes- Central information resource for medical schools, students, teaching hospitals, and residents in the disaster region. Provided by the American Association of Medical Colleges.
  • Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) PDF Icon- At-risk populations and influenza pandemic: Planning Guidance for State, Territorial, Tribal and Local Health Departments.
  • Conservation OnLine - Resources for Conservation Professionals - CoOL, a project of the Preservation Department of Stanford University Libraries, is a full text library of conservation information, covering a wide spectrum of topics of interest to those involved with the conservation of library, archives and museum materials.
  • Disaster Mitigation Planning Assistance- A joint project of the Michigan State University Libraries, the Center for Great Lakes Culture and the California Preservation Program
  • Joint Commission Online - Revised emergency management standards - Effective January 1, 2008, the emergency management standards (EC.4.10 and EC.4.20) for hospitals, critical access hospitals and long term care facilities have been revised to reflect an “all-hazards” approach to emergency preparedness that permits appropriately flexible and effective responses. The revised standards emphasize a “scalable” approach that can help manage the variety, intensity and duration of the disasters that can affect a single organization, multiple organizations or an entire community.
  • Librarians' Internet Index - Two years on, Hurricane Katrina is still being reckoned with. This Katrina topic page has over 200 sites.
  • Medical Library Association- Information for members in the disaster regions, links to hospitals and schools impacted by the hurricanes, donations
  • New York Academy of Medicine - The New York Academy of Medicine has released a report and tools that will enable households, work places, schools and early childhood/youth programs, and governments to anticipate and address problems they would face in emergencies. The Academy's main report documents that the emergency preparedness instructions being given to people and organizations do not address many important sheltering-in-place issues and sometimes make matters worse.   • Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education - Federal, state, and local public health agencies turn to ORISE for help in educating our nation’s citizens on Public Health Preparedness and other hot health topics.
  • Society of Georgia Archivists - Shelter from the Stormy Blast: A Guide to Disaster Recovery Services for Georgia and the Southeast.
  • SOLINET Disaster Assistance- The SOLINET Preservation Field Service Program offers emergency disaster assistance to individuals and institutions.
