Mind Journey - The Clubhouse Kids

MindJourney Software will demonstrate titles from the Clubhouse Kids(tm) series of pediatric patient education CD-ROMs at Prevention 99. Demonstrations include prototypes of "The Clubhouse Kids Learn About HIV" and "The Clubhouse Kids Learn About Leukemia." MindJourney will also offer "The Clubhouse Kids Learn About Asthma," in a special promotion.

"The Clubhouse Kids Learn About HIV" is a computer-based patient education program for children who have HIV. The program, delivered on CD-ROM, teaches 8- to 12-year-olds about the importance of following their treatment schedule and helps them understand that they are in control of their HIV. This program uses a combination of presentation methods to teach about HIV. In an interactive storybook, children learn about diagnosis and treatment by following the story of Trudy as she deals with her HIV. In a menu driven presentation, topics are presented using metaphors to simplify the explanation of complex medical concepts. For children who learn by doing, an interactive activity gives children the opportunity to administer HIV drugs to Trudy and observe how they affect the virus. "The Clubhouse Kids Learn About HIV" CD-ROM has recently completed phase 1 testing. MindJourney will be demonstrating a prototype of the CD and will be discussing the results of the phase 1 evaluations.

"The Clubhouse Kids Learn About Leukemia" is a computer-based patient education program for children who have recently been diagnosed with Leukemia and for their parents. The program, delivered on CD-ROM, teaches 6- to 10-year-olds about the diagnosis and treatment of leukemia. As children and parents explore the program, they gain a greater understanding of their condition and of the treatments that they will be undergoing. This program teaches about leukemia using a combination of presentation methods. Children click through an interactive storybook that follows the story of Reggie who has just been diagnosed with leukemia. They learn about his diagnosis and initial treatment and meet some of his friends in the clinic who are in other stages of leukemia treatment. Children also can play an interactive game that allows them to run a factory that makes blood cells. This game explains the concepts of what goes wrong in leukemia and the actions of chemotherapy. "The Clubhouse Kids Learn About Leukemia" has recently completed phase 1 testing. MindJourney will be demonstrating a prototype of the CD and will be discussing the results of the phase 1 evaluations.

The Technology Games will begin at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, March 18 and end Saturday, March 20 at 10:45 a.m.
