Nutrition in Medicine®
Medeor Interactive, Inc. sells an exciting and unique series of multimedia CD-ROMs on nutrition, Nutrition in Medicine®, which are in use at most US medical schools, including Harvard, Johns Hopkins, University of North Carolina, and 100 others. Reviews by faculty and students rate these as the best computer-assisted courses available in nutrition. These CDs are developed by a national leader in nutrition, Steven Zeisel, MD, PhD, Chairman of Nutrition at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Medical School and School of Public Health. Some of the funding for the development of this innovative series came from the National Cancer Institute and the Director's Office at NIH. Three CD-ROMs (for IBM and MacIntosh) are now available at $150 each for the physician continuing education series (Nutrition and Cancer, Nutrition Diabetes and Weight Management, Nutrition and Cardiovascular Disease and Obesity). A 15-hour category 1 CME credit per CD is available from the American Society for Clinical Nutrition. Each CD-ROM presents nutrition science within the framework of an interaction with a simulated (on professional quality, digitized video) patient. Rather than using a traditional teaching structure (i.e., lectures on vitamins, minerals, lipids, protein, etc.), in each program a number of issues derived from the simulated patient's condition are used to teach the principles of nutrition and to illustrate the interaction between nutrition and health or disease. In addition to the biochemical bases of nutrition, the series of programs covers nutrition epidemiology, clinical nutrition, nutrition assessment, and nutritionally related preventive health care. The Technology Games will begin at 6:30
p.m., Thursday, March 18 and end
