The Eighth Pacific Rim Fisheries Conference
(March 22-24, 2006), Hanoi, Vietnam
The Eighth Pacific Rim Fisheries Conference on
“Challenges of Stewardship of Living Marine Resources in the Pacific
Marine Ecosystem” was held in Hanoi, Vietnam. The conference keynote
address on “Who gets the Fish? “ was delivered in two parts. Kitty Simonds, Executive Director of the Western Pacific Fishery Management
Council spoke on domestic challenges of who gets the fish, while Bill
Robinson, Regional Director of the Pacific Islands NOAA Fisheries
Service spoke on the international perspective of who gets the fish for
the newly formed Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Convention.
Country reports of special challenges were also given for Canada, Korea,
Vietnam, and the United States and on various topics of global fisheries
issues, including ecosystem approaches to management. The presentations
made at the Conference are available for downloading from the Center's
