The Career Voyages team is working hard to bring useful information and new functionality to all of our visitors. We have created this page in an effort to inform you of what we have done and what we're working on. The priority of each project begins with the highest at the top and going down from there.

Short-term Development


  • Ongoing improvement of industry sector pages continues.
  • Increase the number of pages translated into Spanish.

Long-term Development


  • A long-term intention of Career Voyages has been to create customized pages of each industry for each of our audience groups. The site is now reaching a point of maturity and such in-depth work can be considered.

  • Added several partner links/pop-up pages to the Transportation industry:
  • To enhance navigation, added "Industry Overview" and "In-Demand Occupations" links to all of the industry drop-down menus.
  • Added a "Espanol" / "Print Version" graphic to all of the pages. This replaces the black "Espanol Version" button found on just the translated pages. Depending on whether the page has been translated or not, it takes the user to either Explorando Profesiones (http://www. explorandoprofesiones.com) or the translated page.
  • Added a Skills to Build button to the right sides of all of the Construction pages.
  • Changed all of the CareerInfoNet and ACINet images to the new CareerOneStop image.

  • Updated Community College and 4-Year College data.

  • Developed and implemented a site-wide redesign of the header, left menu, and Education and Training buttons. Importantly, the left menu now features drop-down menus that increase navigability.
  • Added a new Energy > Nuclear page to reflect changes at the NEI site.

  • Updated the entire site with new wage data. You can view this data by clicking on any industry's In-Demand Occupations button.
  • Completed the Spanish translation of 8 industries, Homeland Security through Nanotechnology. Now, all of the industry pages have been translated into Spanish.

  • Modified the AHIMA page under Health Care > Allied Health.
  • Added new industry content under Aerospace (click on a sector).
  • Added a Single-Industry Occupations page to complement the "Which Industries are Growing?" pages.

  • More comprehensive "Industry Overviews" replaced the text at the bottom of each industry page using material from InDemand magazines where applicable.

  • In order to assist users interested in downloading information, we have created a Document Library which contains occupation data, brochures, flyers, magazines, and much, much more. It can be accessed by clicking the grey button under "other stuff."
  • A Spanish version of the Health Care section has been added.
  • Explorando Profesiones, a landing page designed to assist Spanish speaking visitors, has been added.
  • A new streaming video, Make it Happen, provided courtesy of the Home Builder Institute (HBI), has been added to the Construction Videos page.

  • Career Voyages breaks the 10 million hits mark at 10,083,404!
  • Advanced Manufacturing now has new content created in partnership with the National Association for Manufacturing.
  • The Automotive section has also been updated with content provided courtesy of Automotive Retailing Today.
  • The Energy section has also been updated with new content.
  • Finally, the Hospitality section has new content as well and will be enhanced even more in the near future.

  • The Career Voyages occupation tables have been updated with the Bureau of Labor Statistics 2004-2014 Projections and November 2004 Wage estimates.
  • In addition, we have added a new feature in which users can sort the individual occupation tables. The default sort is by Projected Need for Employees but now, you can sort by Projected Growth Rate, Wage Range and Education & Training.
  • In order to ensure user-friendly access to the data provided by Career Voyages, we have made Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and Adobe Acrobat PDFs of our various tables on the Other In-Demand Occupations page and individual industry occupation tables available.

  • Career Voyages breaks the 9 million hits mark at 9,606,301.
  • The "Other Options" pages for each industry have undergone a major redesign to improve navigation to additional content and resources such as Jobs Corps, Career Clusters and the One-Stop Career Centers.
  • Revised the Education and Training column in the Occupation tables (click on the See the In-Demand Occupations button). It now displays in graphical and numerical format the different percentages of education attained by workers, aged 25 to 44, in each occupation. This information replaces the basic postsecondary-education or training previously offered.

  • The first issue of InDemand magazine, available in both online and downloadable PDF versions, goes live. Each issue will explore careers in a different high growth industry, and this first issue highlights careers in the Construction industry.

  • Career Voyages breaks the 7 million hits mark!

  • The occupation tables are now broken out into 10 occupations per page unless there are 15 or fewer occupations for a particular industry. In order to make it easy to print, you have an option to print a specific page or to print the entire list.
  • The Career Voyages streaming video tutorial, available in both Real and Windows Media formats, is released. This video takes users through the Career Voyages site and shows them how to find desired information.

  • The Career Voyages team has replaced the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Projected Need for Employees (2004 - 2014) numbers (indicating the need for each of the in-demand occupations) with the BLS un-rounded estimates for "Total job openings due to growth and net replacements, 2002-12."

    This change increased the projected need numbers for our existing occupations. At the same time, it brought a number of new occupations to our attention. We believe this new basis for selecting our occupations provides a much broader picture of the opportunities available in many of the industries.

  • Sales & Leasing information is added to the Automotive industry section as an initial step to creating a Different Areas in Automotive Services section.
  • In the industry occupation tables, a State Report that gives wage and employment trends is available. Users are now able to request multiple state reports for a single occupation at a time. It should be noted that the states vary in methodologies with respect to their estimates and there are a number of other important factors to consider when comparing state data.
  • State/industry specific links are now being added (e.g. MassBioEd). Suggestions for additional links should click here

  • The 4-year college program web service search functionality is added.
  • Different Areas in Health Care added to the Health Care industry section.
  • Different Career Areas in Retail page added to the Retail industry section. Working closely with the National Retail Federation Foundation, the links from each career area go to a customized landing page specifically for Career Voyages visitors.
  • Different Areas in Construction pages added to the Construction industry section.
  • Career Changers Military to Civilian Occupations page added to assist individuals who either are transitioning out of the military or are interested in joining the military. Specifically, this feature enables users to make connections between military occupations and the in-demand civilian occupations highlighted in Career Voyages.
  • Enhanced Links page with links categorized according to user, industry and state added for easy navigation. The state specific links direct users to the state career resource and exploration sites.
  • New graphical buttons were added.

  • Using text from the FAQ pages and taking into account developments on site, each audience page (Students, Parents, Career Changers and Career Advisors) was rewritten and the navigation was redesigned in order to provide more user-friendly information and guidance on using Career Voyages. The FAQ pages were then eliminated.
  • A new web service connecting the Career Voyages occupations to the O*Net descriptions of those occupations is launched. Screen shots from the respective videos are also available.
  • In response to growing interest in linking to Career Voyages, a Linking Requests page was created with information about our criteria.
  • "What's New" page added.
