Power Switch News Main
story Lowes Home Improvement Warehouse has become the largest purchaser of Green Power Switch. Using clean energy is part of our corporate citizenship, says Robin Nickles, Vice President of Retail Facilities Management at Lowes. Its the right thing to do for the environment, and its the right thing to do for our customers.
For its purchase of Green Power Switch, Lowes has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through its Green Power Partnership. The EPA program is a new, voluntary initiative to establish green-power procurement as a best practice of environmental management. Program participants include Fortune 500 companies, cities, and leading organizations around the nation. More information about the partnership is available at the EPA Web site. Gary Harris, Green Power Switch Program Manager, says, We commend Lowes for its corporate commitment to improving the environment and for choosing Green Power Switch as a means of doing so. Lowes, the nations 13th-largest retailer, stocks more than 40,000 home improvement items and caters to both do-it-yourself and commercial customers. The company has 53 locations in the TVA service area that are served by 37 power distributors. At the 32 Lowes stores where Green Power Switch is currently available, green-power purchases total about 3 percent of monthly electrical use. Lowes participation in Green Power Switch has given participating distributors the opportunity to promote green power at the corporate level, says Debbie Murray, TVA Senior Account Manager assigned to Lowes. Hopefully more companies across the region will follow the stores example.
