Have You Ever Wanted To:

  • Go beyond typical professional practice?
  • Be part of a multidisciplinary health care team?
  • Improve the health of entire communities?
  • Serve your country?
  • Enjoy the rank and privileges of being a uniformed commissioned officer?

If your answer to any of these questions is YES, then the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps wants you as one of its leaders in public health.

As the Acting Surgeon General, I'm honored to oversee the operations of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps—a group of 6,000 dedicated men and women who serve their fellow citizens, their country and their world. When Americans living in isolated communities need better access to necessary health care, the Corps fills the gap. When natural and manmade disasters threaten public health safety, the Corps is there. When children and adults both here and abroad face potentially ravaging diseases, the Corps takes action to prevent, treat and eliminate sickness and suffering.

The Commissioned Corps has a proud history of service dating back to 1798. For more than 200 years, Corps officers have demonstrated the highest standards of public health care research and practice. For those who serve, I commend you. The Corps is an elite team of exceptional medical professionals. For those considering the Corps, I encourage you to look deep within yourselves. We are seeking the best and brightest to serve on the frontlines of public health safety—individuals who truly are committed to the health and well-being of others and who understand today's global challenges of health promotion and disease prevention. The Commissioned Corps is more than a job, it's a calling.
