Deputy Chief of Staff, G-2

Mission

G-2’s primary mission is the development, maintenance and the application of the Operational Environment (OE) and Threat in support of the Command’s core competencies – recruiting, training and educating The Army’s Soldiers; developing leaders; supporting training in units; developing doctrine; establishing standards; and building the future Army. The G-2 leads a franchise, both formal and informal, comprised of strategic and operational members that broadly represent the body of knowledge in this critical area and provides the critical linkage between what we know and understand about the current OE and what is recognized as the trends and variables within the environment that will impact on the Future Force. G-2 provides independent, objective and impartial application of the OE to consistently challenge and stress the Command’s major mission areas. The G-2 also coordinates for TRADOC and the Army G2 all Joint ISR/Battlespace Awareness concepts with JFCOM and the services.

The G-2 is the threat approval authority for the command and the executive agent for the Army’s Opposing Forces programs and has overall Army responsibility for developing, publishing and training the Contemporary Operational Environment (COE) and OPFOR doctrine and TTP in support of Army and Joint training, analysis and experimentation needs. The G-2 also develops and operationalizes all threat representation and data requirements in support Army analysis conducted by TRAC and the refinement of modeling and simulation (M&S) threat characterization for TRAC and the National Simulation Center (NSC). G-2 is the TRADOC lead agency for all threat utilized in DoD and Army testing and produces the Threat Test Support Plan (TTSP) for all concepts, systems and organizational designs.
