Office of Hearings & Appeals

Internship Opportunities

The Office of Hearings and Appeals (OHA) welcomes applications from law students for academic year and summer volunteer internships. OHA’s work involves the following areas of the law: Federal administrative law, including the Freedom of Information Act and the Privacy Act (FOIA/PA), the Small Business Act, government contracts, personnel law, corporate law, and contract law.

Law students work flexible schedules consistent with their availability and interest -- usually 16 hours per week during the school year and 20 hours during the summer.

Students generally handle work similar to that of full-time staff attorneys, with levels of responsibility based on their ability, experience, and interests. Students review case files, analyze legal issues, draft legal memoranda, and assist the Judges in preparing notices, orders, and decisions. Students also may work on legal projects for the Assistant Administrator for Hearings and Appeals, and for SBA’s FOIA/PA Office, which is a part of OHA.

We are at Federal Center SW Metro stop (Blue and Orange Lines).
