During public festivities on
July 4^th, 2004, the City of Livermore Police Department (LPD) and Sandia researchers tested a system of sensors and other advanced technology designed to keep revelers safe from future terrorist attacks.

A new homeland security technology or system is of no use to communities unless it can be integrated successfully into existing prevention or response operations. Attempting to close the gap between research and the real world needs, Sandia has run pilot and training programs with state and local officials. These experiences have helped communities improve their planning, while given us an opportunity to refine our systems and make them more practical for the end user
