Satellite telemetry research conducted by the National Marine Mammal Laboratory (NMML) is part of a coordinated research effort into the relationship between the foraging ecology of Steller sea lions and recent population declines. Satellite tracking provides information on the movements of Steller sea lions for use in the conservation of threatened or endangered populations under the Endangered Species Act and in the management of fisheries that may impact the prey of foraging sea lions. The objective of the Alaska Ecosystem Program's Telemetry Research Page is to provide visitors with a tool to view the near real time movements of Steller sea lions with active instruments and to view location data from previous tracking efforts. It should be noted that the map viewer on this site displays unfiltered location data and therefore is not intended for use as an analysis tool.
