Title: Pacific Islander Community Development Project (PI CDP)

The goal of the Pacific Islander Community Development Project is to improve access to health care for the community and increase the number of community-based minority-serving organizations directly involved in addressing the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The project is developing a working network of 7 - 10 Pacific Islander community-based and faith-based headquartered in Los Angeles and Orange Counties organizations serving hard to reach Pacific Islander communities. The project aims at building their organizational capacity and providing them with the knowledge and skills to successfully secure grants and other funding.

Key components of the project include needs assessments, technical assistance plans, and participation in training and community events. Information and resource sharing is a priority area, including information on how organizations can better access HIV/AIDS funding opportunities, provide culturally appropriate services to hard-to-reach groups, and develop effective linkages throughout the HIV/AIDS network of services. Organizations participate in intensive technical assistance and training through group and one-on-one consultation, group sessions and/or workshops, and agency staff in-service training sessions. A variety of workshops are conducted, based on the assessments, and include topics such as HIV/AIDS programming, integration of prevention and client services, advocating for the API HIV/AIDS community, peer-to-peer leadership, management and supervision, resource development and grant writing, infrastructure building and strategic planning, development of evaluation plans, staff development and human resource management, fiscal management and reporting, and public relations and media. Other activities include participation in an HIV/AIDS and Pacific Islander advocacy and planning group through monthly network meetings, MOU development, administrative training, ongoing budget administration, service delivery linkages and collaboration; and participation in group community festivals to provide outreach, education and advocacy services.
