ALS Accelerator Physics Group

The Advanced Light Source Accelerator Physics Group is engaged in four main activities:

  1. Establishing the storage-ring parameters that are required every week to satisfy the production beam specifications, including the generation of software to operate subsystems and troubleshooting in case of component failure.
  2. Developing diagnostic tools and methods to ascertain machine characteristics.
  3. Exploring new modes of storage-ring operation to improve reliability, to extend the range of beam conditions that can be offered to users, and to accommodate changes in the machine configuration.
  4. Planning future upgrades of the existing accelerators or entirely new machines with advanced characteristics.

The Advanced Light Source is a division of Ernest Orlando Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
