Who should consider volunteering with Volunteers for Prosperity?
Highly-skilled American professionals such as doctors, nurses, teachers, engineers, economists, computer specialists, financial sector professionals, business executives and others with specialized technical expertise and practical work experience in their profession are eligible volunteer candidates.
I am interested in volunteering. Where do I begin?
This web site provides information and links to
the many organizations that are Volunteers for Prosperity partners.
These groups offer thousands of opportunities for service promoting
economic growth, health, and good governance in the developing
world. In addition, a search engine on the VfP website links to a database with thousands of announcements for specific international voluntary opportunities making it easier for skilled Americans to volunteer overseas. See USA Freedom Corps Volunteer Network Find an International Volunteer Opportunity at www.volunteersforprosperity.gov.
I am an American citizen who lives and works abroad. I would like to volunteer in the country where I reside. Can I participate in Volunteers for Prosperity?
Yes. There is a global map on the VfP website that shows where VfP partners work overseas. Also, our Connect with a VfP Partner page lets you select a sector (e.g., Agriculture, economic growth, HIV/AIDS) to find VfP partners that utilize skilled American volunteers around the world.
Can I choose the country? May I choose a specific sector to work?
You may request a particular country and area of interest that you think best suits your experience and skills by contacting specific organizations that are participating in Volunteers for Prosperity and work with other volunteers from your profession.
I'm not a nurse, physician, doctor, computer specialist, educator, or engineer, but I am a professional with many years of experience and would like to volunteer. Are there opportunities for me to volunteer?
Volunteers for Prosperity seeks to engage the talents of all interested trained professionals that can help advance the health and prosperity objectives stated under specific federally-supported development initiatives.
Does Volunteers for Prosperity recognize you for your volunteer service?
Volunteers participating in the initiative are eligible to earn the President's Volunteer Service Award, established by President Bush to honor any individual, family or group for their dedication to service. Any adult who completes 100 or more hours of volunteer service at home or abroad within a 12 month period is eligible to receive the award.
Each award package will include a note of congratulations from the President, a letter from the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation, a certificate of achievement and a lapel pin. This award can be a tangible way for sponsoring American organizations to recognize the efforts of their U.S. citizen volunteers.
