Brain Basics: Know Your Brain - Fact sheet is a basic introduction to the human brain. It may help you understand how the healthy brain works, how to keep it healthy, and what happens when the brain is diseased or dysfunctional. (National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke)
http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/brain_basics/know_your_brain.htm
Brain Basics: Understanding Sleep - Fact sheet on sleep as a dynamic activity, the requirements for and purpose of sleep, dreaming and REM sleep, sleep and circadian rhythms, sleep and disease, and sleep disorders (insomnia, sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome, and narcolepsy). (National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke)
http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/brain_basics/understanding_sleep.htm
3-D Brain Maturation Video - A time-lapse 3-D movie that compresses 15 years of human brain maturation, ages 5 to 20, into seconds. It shows gray matter — the working tissue of the brain's cortex — diminishing in a back-to-front wave, likely reflecting the pruning of unused neuronal connections during the teen years. (National Institute of Mental Health)

Alcohol and Sleep (Alcohol Alert) - Fact sheet about how the effects of alcohol consumption on sleep patterns, the potential health consequences of alcohol consumption combined with disturbed sleep, and the risk for relapse in those with alcoholism who fail to recover normal sleep patterns. (National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism)
http://pubs.niaaa.nih.gov/publications/aa41.htm
Alzheimer's Disease: Advances and Hopes (Webcast) - Trey Sunderland, M.D. describes the rationale behind, and progress to date, of a comprehensive study to examine the spinal fluid of Alzheimer's patients during the course of their illness compared to healthy patients. The research study also involves an extended view of a special group of normal subjects perceived to be at risk for developing Alzheimer's disease. The hope is to isolate specific biological traits which may aid in the early identification of the disease. (September 16, 2003) To view this videocast you will need RealPlayer, which you can download for free for either a PC or a Macintosh.”Download RealPlayer (NIH Clinical Center)
