Block Island Time Series
A photo time series of a plot at a site on Block Island, Alaska, that was oiled and washed in 1989, after the Exxon Valdez oil spill. At this location, the course of recovery has not followed biologists' original expectations.

Block Island plot in 1995
Subsequent years have shown a similar "cycling" of cover at this location. This has prompted us to ask the question: Was this cycling initiated by the oil spill and cleanup, or does it reflect natural variability in Fucus population patterns? We don't know the answer to this question just yet.
