College Students Rank Peace Corps #5 behind Google, Disney, Apple and U.S. State Department as an Ideal Undergraduate Employer

WASHINGTON, D.C., June 4, 2007 – The Peace Corps has been formally recognized by undergraduate college students as the #5 most Ideal Employer to meet their career goals. The 2007 results are based upon a survey conducted by UNIVERSUM Communications, which gathered student’s perceptions of companies and expectations upon entering the working world. The feedback from 44,064 U.S. undergraduates was recently published exclusively in BusinessWeek.

Peace Corps Director Ron Tschetter said, “This great news shows that young Americans are still answering, and finding great rewards, in the call to national service that John F. Kennedy began in 1961.”

Selection as number five overall from the many prominent companies listed (see full listing below) is recognition of Peace Corps’ mission in global development and the agency’s presence on the college campus. The rankings recently published in Business Week Magazine, place the Peace Corps in the top tier behind Google, Disney, Apple, and the Department of State.

Peace Corps moved in the rankings from #138 last year to #5. In doing so, was also recognized by Liberal Arts Majors as the 2nd most Ideal Employer and among Science Majors, as the 3rd most Ideal Employer.

Many students are making a significant choice to make a difference through public service working with the Peace Corps. Peace Corps Volunteers are among the best employment candidates for future corporate positions, bringing skills and cultural awareness that only comes from their international experience.

Since 1961, more than 187,000 Peace Corps Volunteers have helped promote a better understanding between Americans and the people of the 139 countries where Volunteers have served. Peace Corps Volunteers must be U.S. citizens and at least 18 years of age. Peace Corps service is a 27-month commitment.
