University of Colorado Near-real-time altimetry

University of Colorado Near-real-time altimetry Overview: Sea Surface height, significant wave height, wind speed, geostrophic velocity vectors for the following regions; Gulf of Mexico, Gulf Stream, Bering Sea, Sea of Japan. Global data, subsets and animations can also be obtained. Data are from a combination of ERS-2 and TOPEX/Poseidon. These data should be used only for mesoscale work because tilts and biases have been removed from ~1500 km arcs (wrt the Rapp 95 mean surface). This removes all large scale sea level signals. Data in GIF, postscript, ASCII are available on the web 24 hrs after acquisition.

Access:
http://www-ccar.colorado.edu/~leben/research.html

Uses: Research, marine applications, education. These products can also be used by marine operators. Note: The Colorado analysis products are preferred for mesoscale work because they include data from 2 altimeters and therefore provide better sampling in time and space.
