Idaho derives nearly all of its electricity from hydroelectric power plants and other renewable sources such as geothermal, solar and wind energy.  In addition, the state has implemented an energy efficiency program within the agriculture industry - Idaho’s largest industry - to promote alternative energy sources and water conservation throughout the farming community.  The Department of Energy’s Idaho National Laboratory, located in Idaho Falls, has been instrumental in basic research and development and environmental innovations since 1949.
