Title: Technical Resource Assistance and Networking Services for Rural Mississippi (TRANSFROM) Project
Project Period: September 1, 2006 - August 31, 2009
Project Director: Mark Colomb

The TRANSFROM Project provides organizational infrastructure technical assistance (fiscal, management and governance) to 30 faith-based and/or community-based organizations through a series of workshops and trainings. These organizations primarily serve African American communities.

The project strategy is to conduct technical assistance and capacity development activities of two broad categories: proactive assistance and responsive assistance. The proactive assistance includes scheduled skills building training workshops, newsletter and fact sheet dissemination, Listserv notification, and service provider meetings. The responsive assistance includes activities initiated by the requested faith-based or community-based organization, focusing on one-on-one consultation, organizational infrastructure needs and program planning needs. An existing data base of over 300 faith-based and community-based organizations is used to select and assess the needs of organizations within the Jackson metropolitan area. Training/ workshops include organizational needs assessment, program design, behavioral interventions, case management, outreach, fiscal responsibility, administrative management of non-profit organizations and governance. A skills building workshop and Technology Transfer Training Meeting are conducted to introduce the mentoring program design based on the methods founded on adult learning theory. Additionally skills building training will be offered based on the organizational need. The project publishes a bi-annual newsletter on organizational infrastructure with program planning tips and highlights. Other activities include creating a link to multimedia web sites, conference announcements via e-mail and a Listserv for quick transfer of electronic information. A local service providers meeting is held quarterly so that participating organizations have the opportunity to share program information to complete the continuum of services for HIV prevention and treatment. Services are tailored and implemented for participating organizations by project staff and/or a Resource Consultant Pool.
