User Agreements and Accounts

Before general users or members of Participating Research Teams (PRTs) can begin their research at the ALS, a User Agreement between Berkeley Lab and the user's sponsoring institution must be signed. This agreement is an umbrella document that covers issues such as safety and health, intellectual property rights, and payment of expenses. Once the agreement is signed, users may set up an account for miscellaneous supplies and expenses at the ALS. Both user agreements and expense accounts are established through the Berkeley Lab Sponsored Projects Office.

  • What: User Agreements and User Accounts
  • Who: For information about setting up user agreements and accounts at the ALS, contact Jerry Kekos, Budget and Planning, (Ext. 6889), email: jmkekos@lbl.gov.

Tracking Expenses

Users can keep track of expenses charged to their Berkeley Lab accounts through the Lab's Integrated Reporting and Information System (IRIS).The following account information is available through the IRIS v2:

Detail Ledger (DET): List of all charges and liens

Expense Statement (EXP): Summary of all charges and liens

Monthly or Weekly Effort Statement (MES or WES): List of charges for LBNL effort

Central Stores Issues and Returns Statement

Purchase Order Lookup (PO Lookup): Summary of information regarding details of placed purchase orders.

IRIS v2 uses the same LBNL LDAP database (used for email and calendaring) for user identification and authentication. If you do not use email or have a LDAP passward, contact the Lab's Help Desk (Ext. 4357).
