At a Sept. 13 meeting at the State Department, Under Secretary Henrietta Fore personally thanked Diplomatic Security (DS) personnel who aided in the successful evacuation of American citizens from Lebanon during the Israeli—Hizbollah conflict that erupted two months earlier.

In July, approximately 50 DS employees, including special agents and task force personnel, assisted with the evacuation which resulted in the sudden deployment of agents to Lebanon, Israel, Cyprus and Turkey.

“I want to let you know what a great impression you made on your fellow Americans,” the Undersecretary said.

“Your fine work made a great difference...What happened in Lebanon (the evacuation) was a historic accomplishment. It was a proud moment for the United States," she said.
