As a career choice, the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps has never looked better. “Whether they are providing care to individual patients or serving on the frontlines of a public health emergency and disaster response, Commissioned Corps personnel are helping those who are the most vulnerable in times of greatest need,” says U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt. "Our officers treat disease, ensure the safety of food and medicine, and restore health and hope in times of greatest need. Right now we’re increasing the number of Commissioned Corps officers and restructuring the deployment process. This will make us more agile and efficient while continuing to fulfill our daily mission."
