TVA Asks Volunteers To Help Build Trail on National Public Lands Day

September 24, 2007

KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Members of the TVA Holston-Cherokee-Douglas Watershed Team will work with volunteers to construct a new trail near the Boone Dam public boat launch on National Public Lands Day, Saturday, Sept. 29.

Volunteers will meet on property known as the Earl Light tract off Minga Road. The new trail will be constructed through a bird and wildlife viewing area. TVA is helping build the trail to provide additional recreational opportunities for the public, such as walking, photography, wildlife observation, and nature study on non-waterfront land, according to TVA Watershed Team member Aurora Moldovanyi.

National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance the public lands that Americans enjoy.

Volunteers should dress appropriately for outdoor work and bring gloves and a lunch. The trail-building event will take place rain or shine. Tools will be provided by the watershed team.

Volunteers may contact Moldovanyi at the Watershed Team office or meet at the tract at 9 a.m., with work on the trail continuing until 5 p.m.

TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely self-financing. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve approximately 8.7 million consumers in seven southeastern states. TVA also manages the Tennessee River and its tributaries to provide multiple benefits, including flood damage reduction, navigation, water quality and recreation.
