TVA Identifies Preferred Route for Transmission Line

February 8, 2008

FAYETTEVILLE, Tenn. – TVA has identified a preferred route for a planned transmission line that will provide a reliable source of power to the growing Fayetteville area.

The three-mile route is expected to have the fewest overall impacts of the alternatives studied. TVA’s decision follows receipt and evaluation of public input on alternative routes for various segments of the line.

The new 161-kilovolt line will provide a source of power to Fayetteville Public Utilities’ new Park City Substation. The preferred route begins at TVA’s existing Ardmore-Fayetteville line at U.S. Highway 231 and extends north for about two miles. It turns due east and shares a right-of-way with an existing Fayetteville Public Utilities’ line for about .8 mile to connect with the new substation, located southeast of the intersection of U.S. 231 and McDougal Road.

The route affects approximately 13 tracts of property along two miles of new right-of-way. TVA will work with property owners to obtain 100-foot easements for construction, operation and maintenance of the line. Property owners will be compensated for the easements at fair market value and retain possession of the property. There are also 12 property tracts along the mile of existing right-of-way.

TVA is expected to begin acquiring easements for the right-of-way during the winter of 2008-09. Construction is scheduled to begin during the spring of 2009 with project completion scheduled for summer of 2009.

In determining the preferred route for the line, TVA strives to select the best overall path, weighing the same environmental, land use, engineering, cultural and cost considerations to ensure that overall project impacts, as well as impacts to the community at large, are minimized.
