TVA Asks for Comments on Proposed Transmission Project

January 29, 2007

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – To maintain reliable electric service and meet growing power demand, TVA plans to improve its transmission system in the Cookeville-Algood area.

Public input on the project is encouraged, beginning with an open house on Tuesday, Feb. 6, in Algood.

The improvements include a new 161-kilovolt transmission line, which will be about four to five miles long. The line will extend from TVA’s South Cookeville-Monterey transmission line, which parallels I-40 on the north side, north to the Algood Substation at 260 First Ave. The new line is needed to power the substation, which is being upgraded from 69-kilovolts.

TVA will present project alternatives at an open house to be held from 3 - 7 p.m. CST at the Algood United Methodist Church Family Life Center, 135 West Main St., in Algood.

Detailed maps showing the network of alternative routes for the power line will be available, and TVA staff will be on hand to answer questions, discuss potential concerns and receive comments on the proposals. A map is available.

For additional information or to submit comments, contact Todd Moore, TVA, 1101 Market St. (MR 4G), Chattanooga, TN 37402-2801, call toll free 800-362-4355, e-mail newtransline@tva.com or visit TVA’s website. The deadline for comments is March 9, 2006.
