TVA To Open Campgrounds for 2007 Recreation Season

March 9, 2007

TVA campgrounds on reservoirs throughout the Tennessee Valley will open on Friday, March 16, for the 2007 recreation season.

TVA’s day-use recreation areas remain open throughout the year. TVA operates about 100 public recreation areas throughout the Valley, including day-use areas, boat ramps and 11 campgrounds. The campgrounds will remain open until Nov. 19.

TVA will honor the new America the Beautiful and Federal Recreation Lands Senior and Access Passes, giving a 50-percent reduction in camping fees to pass holders at its 11 campgrounds.TVA will continue to accept Golden Access and Golden Age Passports according to the provisions of the pass, but can no longer issue these or the America the Beautiful passes because of new federal regulations. Holders of these passes will continue to receive a 50-percent discount on camping fees.

TVA campgrounds provide recreation opportunities to people interested in boating, fishing and other recreation activities. Fees for sites without water and electric hookups are $16 a day, and fees for sites with hookups are $20 a day. Fees for new sites at Melton Hill Reservoir with electric, water and sewer hookups will be $24 per day. The $2 increase in fees will help TVA cover the costs of operation and maintenance of the areas. TVA- managed day-use areas and boat launch ramps have no fees.

TVA also has picnic pavilions available at selected sites. Information on how to reserve and use the picnic pavilions is available by calling toll-free 866-494-7186.

For additional information on recreation opportunities on TVA reservoirs, contact the local TVA watershed office or visit TVA’s recreation Web site.

TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely self-financed.
