External link Help With Medicare Prescription Drugs for Organizations
The new Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003 (P.L. 108-173), enacted December 8, 2003, requires the Social Security Administration (SSA) to undertake a number of additional Medicare-related responsibilities. SSA and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) are working together to provide persons with limited income and resources extra help paying for their prescription drugs. Social Security's role in this partnership is to help the public understand how they may qualify and apply.

External link Medicare and Limited Income Subsidy Information for Organizations
CMS has posted on its website copies of the model letters that have been mailed to deemed eligible beneficiaries who are automatically eligible for the limited-income subsidy for the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit. CMS mailed the “Important Information from Medicare about Paying for Prescription Drugs” notice to all people with Medicare who are automatically eligible to receive extra help paying for a Medicare prescription drug plan. Seven million people who have Medicaid and Medicare or are in a Medicare Savings Program (MSP) will receive this notice, along with 400,000 people who have Medicare and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). There are three versions of this notice: one for people with Medicare and Medicaid, one for people in a Medicare Savings Program (MSP), and one for beneficiaries who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

The Social Security Administration and the HHS Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) are working together to provide persons with limited income and resources extra help paying for their prescription drugs. A new Medicare Prescription Drug Program offers help with prescription drug costs. The new program gives you a choice of prescription plans that offer various types of coverage. You may be able to get extra help to pay for the premiums, annual deductible, and co-payments related to the new Medicare Prescription Drug Program - an average of $2,100 in extra help.
