Region 2 USDL 04-48-NEW/ BOS 2004-016 Thursday, January 22, 2004 Contact: Ted Fitzgerald Phone: (617) 565-2074 Attention: Business News / Calendar Editors OSHA Small Business Outreach Seminars on Health Hazards To Be Offered In February At Six Upstate New York Locations BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Helping small Upstate New York employers identify and eliminate or control occupational health hazards and gain a basic understanding of the OSHA health standards are the goals of seminars being offered by the Buffalo office of the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in conjunction with area organizations and colleges. The same seminar -- Health Hazards -- is being offered at six different locations during February as follows:
"Some occupational hazards are readily evident while others are much more difficult to identify. This seminar will focus on what are typically the hidden dangers of the workplace… health hazards," said Art Dube, OSHA's Buffalo area director. "Occupational health hazards may not manifest themselves right away but rather, appear years later as debilitating diseases. This seminar will help employers identify potential problem areas in their workplaces, tell them how to assess and quantify health hazards, and where to obtain help." This session will conclude the Small Business Seminar Series that OSHA has been offering over the past year to help small Upstate New York employers assemble a safety and health toolbox of information and resources for use in complying with workplace safety and health standards. Future sessions are in the planning stages and will be announced at a later date. Co-sponsors with OSHA are: the New York State Department of Labor On-site Consultation Service, the OSHA Education Center at Niagara County Community College's Corporate Training Center, Jamestown Community College, the Jamestown Small Business Development Center, the Manufacturing Association of the Greater Jamestown Area, Erie Community College Department of Workforce Development, the Niagara Community College Small Business Development Center and the SUNY College at Buffalo State Small Business Development Center, the Greater Olean Chamber of Commerce, SUNY College at Brockport Small Business Development Center, Genesee Community College, Genesee County Chamber of Commerce, the Rochester Business Alliance and the National Safety Council. ###
