Ad Hoc Network Systems & Application

This research program will explore the development of technologies in mobile ad hoc networks aimed at improving reliability for real-time multimedia applications. This research project has the following specific and measurable goals:

• Design a mobile cellular-based ad hoc network using IEEE 802.11 FHSS WLAN operating in hybrid infrastructure/ad hoc modes.

• Develop a cross-layer design to improve the performance of ad hoc networks and their application to multimedia communications.

• Develop a robust RTP/UDP/IP multimedia streaming with an efficient lossy redundant packet recovery technique to improve resiliency against severe packet loss conditions typical of ad hoc network environments (e.g., a route change).
