 TIA Releases Basic Earthmover Tire Service Program
As part of its continuing quest to educate technicians on the proper safety procedures for servicing tires, the Tire Industry Association (TIA) has released a new training program for off-the-road (OTR) and earthmover markets. Basic Earthmover Tire Service (ETS) outlines the minimum skills and safety guidelines for servicing one-piece, three-piece, five-piece and double gutter OTR assemblies. TIA has developed a 10-minute video trailer that you can view by clicking the video image above.

Zipper Rupture Bulletin Revised
The Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) has revised its Industry Service Bulletin on how to identify potential sidewall zipper ruptures in commercial vehicle tires. The six-page bulletin describes proper inspection procedures for possible zipper ruptures on steel-belted radial truck/bus and light truck tires. It also presents precautionary measures tire technicians can use to avoid being killed or seriously injured by an exploding zipper rupture. You may have heard by now about the EPA’s latest activities with the regulation of lead wheel weights. The National Lead-Free Wheel Weight Initiative was announced on Friday, August 29th at the Detroit Belle Isle, Michigan Grand Prix race. This initiative calls for the voluntary elimination of lead weights by 2011 and was co-sponsored by Bridgestone Firestone, among others. TIA joined forces with Public Citizen, Goodyear, Bridgestone/Firestone,
Cooper and Pirelli Tires to sue the Department of Transportation
regarding the final rule on Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (click

The Tire Industry Association (TIA) has a history that spans more than 80 years and includes several name changes. Originally known as the National Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association (NTDRA), the organization gave birth over the years to the American Retreaders Association (ARA), and the Tire Association of North America (TANA). ARA changed its name to the International Tire & Rubber Association (ITRA) and merged with TANA in 2002 to form the current Tire Industry Association (TIA), which now represents every interest in the tire industry.
