Rudolph Carnap was born May 18, 1891, in Ronsdorf, Wuppertal, Germany. He was employed as a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Chicago in 1936, and worked under a Rockefeller Foundation grant in 1942-1944. In September 1952, he went to the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, NJ, to do research in mathematics. August 31, 1954, Carnap left for the University of California at Los Angeles as a Professor of Philosophy. His name was connected to several organizations as was common amongst college professors.
