Highlights

Resettling Iraqi Refugees
"We are marking the goal for resettling Iraqi refugees in fiscal year 2008. On September 11, we crossed the 12,000 threshold. Thus far, 12,118 Iraqi refugees have arrived in the U.S. for permanent resettlement, and more than 1,000 are booked to travel to the U.S. by the end of the month."   Full Text  | Fact Sheet

Drug and Crime Report Released

The report further strengthens our commitment to the current comprehensive counternarcotics strategy in Afghanistan. We are especially encouraged to learn that 18 provinces, over half of Afghanistan’s 34 provinces, are now poppy free, a significant increase from 13 provinces in 2007.

Mapping the Arctic Seafloor
The U.S. Extended Continental Shelf Task
Force, chaired by the Department of State, plans two Arctic cruises by the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Healy, one of which will be conducted in collaboration with the Government of Canada.
