After students have successfully completed the requirements for one of the programs listed below, they will receive $1,000 Educational Award (scholarship) from the Corporation for National and Community Service matched with a $500 housing stipend supported by FSU to use towards on-campus housing or a $250 bookstore stipend if living off-campus for the following academic year.
HallSTARS! First-Year ProgramThe HallSTARS! Service Program is a residential living-learning-serving experience for freshmen committed to making a change in their community (all students reside in Cumberland Hall). As a member of the HallSTARS! learning community, students will be part of a national service movement, providing volunteer service as reading tutors, youth mentors, senior companions, and more.
AmeriCorps Opportunities for sophomore, juniors and seniorsCommunity Resident Assistant (CRA) AmeriCorps members will serve to recruit, train, and organize volunteer projects for their residents working closely with the R.A.’s and R.D. of the hall in which they are placed. In addition, students will volunteer in the University's Read to Succeed/Mathletics program, a one-on-one tutoring program for area youth in grades K-8. CRA’s commit a total of 10 hours per week, which includes recruiting, planning two service projects each semester for their residence hall, and serving in the Read to Succeed Program.
HallSTARS! Fellows AmeriCorps Program for graduate studentsHallSTARS! Fellows are partnered with a faculty mentor of their choosing and will serve at a service site of their choice. HallSTARS! Fellows will increase programming at a local non-profit or community-based site through a combination of service and research based upon their program of study. This experience is designed for seniors and graduate students only.
