Symbols of Liberty:

Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi included many symbols in his colossal monument.  There are even symbols incorporated in the pedestal as well.  The Statue of Liberty is the embodiment of the universal human desire to be free.  Have your students discuss what they think the Statue means.  Have them analyze the different components of the Statue in class. Discuss the importance of these symbols.  If  you need help, click on each symbol to reveal the answers.

     our nation.
