AVIAN FLU INFORMATION

The spread of influenza A (H5N1), also known as avian flu or bird flu, primarily among bird populations has raised the possibility of a flu pandemic — an epidemic of global proportions. Though the likelihood of an avian flu pandemic is not known at this time, a team at Sandia National Laboratories, in conjunction with Lockheed Martin Corporation, is preparing for a range of possible avian flu outcomes to minimize the impact of a major public health crisis on the Lab's operations and people. More information about this effort is available in the May 12, 2006, issue of the Sandia Lab News.

This website provides links to general information about avian flu provided by authoritative U.S. government sources and will contain Sandia-specific information as it is developed.

Pandemic To-Do List

Sandia's Pandemic Influenza Contingency Team has prepared this Pandemic To-Do List to help Sandia employees, contractors, retirees, and their families prepare now for a public health threat such as an avian flu pandemic.

  1. Learn about the avian flu. This site contains the latest avian flu information from authoritative sources.
  2. Understand how a public health event might affect your work. As a Labs-wide plan develops, this site will include continually updated information for business continuity planning.
  3. Find out how you and your family can prepare. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends individual and family planning for an avian flu pandemic, including preparing home emergency supplies useful during an extended isolation.
